Log Book: October 30th

Conditions: 15mph S wind
Location: Mill Creek, Virginia

Dad and I left Soloman's Island this morning after picking up a cruising guide at the fuel dock. We made our way to Mill Creek just after sunrise. The channel into the creek was very hard to navigate, very narrow and shallow outside the widely spaced markers, not much wiggle room for us. As we rounded the corner and entered the harbor we found it occupied by one other sailboat, we nearly had the place to ourselves. There weren't many houses within view, any hopes of a town were gone but the scenery was gorgeous. The trees were all dark green pines or the changing colors of autumn with wildlife everywhere. We saw a bald eagle chase a seagull around for awhile until the gull dropped it's catch.
Tucking in it was as if we were on a lake, not even a ripple in the water to disturb us. We hung out and listened to the news on the radio a bit. The weatherman said a strong southerly gust would hit us tomorrow early afternoon. Instead of battling the gale for Newport News we thought we'd go to the closest town that the cruising guide suggested, Reedville, until the front passed. We'll leave around 8am tomorrow, we're in desperate need for a grocery store.

What we ate: pork chops & green beans
