Log Book: October 29th

Conditions: 12mph S wind
Location: Soloman's Island, MD

Dad and I slept in this morning and left the harbor around ten thirty. Upon our departure we noticed that all of the boats that were anchored yesterday had vanished, always an ominious sign. Our next destination is Newport News, 80 miles away, we won't make it there today. Leaving the harbor we quickly realized that we left too late in the morning and that without a cruising guide to the Chesapeake (an item we searched for in Annapolis but came up empty) we little hope of finding a suitable harbor on our own before dark. Consequently, we turned right around and went back to Soloman's. Ordinarily I would have jumped at the chance to explore the island but I was feeling so ill that I just went grumpily to sleep.
